Hotel El Convento is a hotel in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. In 1646 King Phillip IV of Spain started construction on this Carmelite convent. 5 years later it was inaugurated as the Monastery of our Lady Carmen of San Jose. It is located across the street from the western hemisphere's oldest cathedral, the San Juan Cathedral.
In 1903 it was closed until 1959, when Robert Woolworth started the renovation to turn it into the El Convento Hotel. It reopened in 1962 to the stars of the day, including Rita Hayworth. In The 90’s it was renovated again and rechristened as Hotel El Convento, a 4 story, 4 star small luxury hotel with a courtyard, a pool on the roof, and great views of Old San Juan.

Hotel El Convento se encuentra en el viejo San Juan, Puerto Rico. En 1646 el Rey Felipe IV de España inició la construcción de este convento para las Carmelitas, 5 años más tarde fue inaugurado como el monasterio de Nuestra Señora del Carmen de San José. Está situado frente de la catedral más antigua del hemisferio occidental, la Catedral de San Juan.
En 1903 fue cerrado hasta 1959, cuando Robert Woolworth comenzó la renovación para convertirlo en el Hotel el Convento. Se reabrió en 1962 a las estrellas de la época, incluyendo a Rita Hayworth. En los años 90 fue nuevamente renovado y rebautizado como Hotel El Convento, un hotel de 4 pisos y 4 estrellas de lujo, con un patio, una piscina en la azotea, y grandes vistas al viejo San Juan.
