The Mayagüez Customhouse is an impressive one-story building in a fine formal Beaux-Arts style, with a full Tuscan portico across both the front and back of the temple-like structure. Classically correct, the Customhouse was designed under the direction of the noted Puerto Rican architect, Rafael Carmoega, and built in 1924, making it the first Customhouse constructed by the United States in Puerto Rico. The interior complements the exterior, with the fine classical ornamentation in the central Customs hall and the surrounding corridors leading to the offices on both sides. Its primary front is on González Clemente Avenue, the principal street along the waterfront. The present Customhouse replaced a fine two-story Spanish-period Customhouse on the same site that was damaged beyond repair in 1918. The distinguished Customhouse, with its ample grounds, contrast with warehouse and waterfront surroundings. This building was restored completely in 1996.

La casa de aduana de Mayagüez es un impresionante edificio de un piso al estilo de Bellas Artes (“Beaux Arts”) formal, con un pórtico Toscano completo a través del frente y la parte posterior de la estructura tipo templo. Clásicamente correcto, la aduana fue diseñada bajo la dirección del destacado arquitecto puertorriqueño, Rafael Carmoega y construida en 1924, convirtiéndola en la primera aduana construida por Estados Unidos en Puerto Rico. El interior complementa el exterior, con la fina ornamentación clásica en su salón central y los corredores circundantes que conducen a las oficinas en ambos lados. Su fachada principal es en la Avenida González Clemente, la calle principal a lo largo de la costa. La aduana actual sustituyó la estructura de dos pisos existente del periodo español la cual sufrió daños irreparables durante el 1918. La distinguida aduana, con sus amplios terrenos, contrasta con el entorno de almacén y paseo marítimo. Este edificio fue restaurado totalmente en 1996.
